About Malbork Castle
The Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork is a 13th century Teutonic citadel and castle positioned close to the city of Malbork, Poland. It is the biggest citadel inside the world measured through land location and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was originally constructed with the aid of the Teutonic Knights, a German Catholic non-secular order of crusaders, in a shape of an Ordensburg citadel. The order named it Marienburg in honour of Mary, mom of Jesus. In 1466, during the division of Prussia into japanese and western parts, the fortress and metropolis became a part of western Royal Prussia.
It served as one of the numerous Polish royal houses, interrupted by means of several years of Swedish occupation, and fulfilling this feature till the First Partition of Poland in 1772. From then on the castle came returned to German rule for almost 200 years. Following Germany's defeat in World War II in 1945, the land turned into assigned to Poland by the Allies. Heavily broken, the fort became renovated beneath the auspices of modern-day Poland inside the 2nd half of the 20th century and most lately in 2016. Nowadays, the fort hosts exhibitions and serves as a museum.
