About Lukow
Lukow is a metropolis in eastern Poland with 30,727 inhabitants as of January 1, 2005. Since 1999, it has been situated in the Lublin Voivodeship previously it had belonged to the Siedlce Voivodeship among 1975-1998. It is the capital of Lukow County. The town has a place of 35.75 km², of which forests make up 13 percent. Lukow is placed on the Southern Krzna River at about a 160 meters above sea stage. The name of the city first regarded in files in 1233. Lukow comes from Old Slavic phrase Luk, because of this a place positioned in a wetland.
For 500 years Lukow, together with neighboring towns Siedlce and Radzyn Podlaski, changed into a part of Lesser Poland, and turned into positioned in the intense northeastern corner of the province. After Partitions of Poland late 18th century it belonged to Russian controlled Congress Poland. Sometime within the 19th century, it has become related to any other historic location of Poland, Podlasie. Lukow changed into installed as a grod, around the year 1233. It guarded eastern border of the Sandomierz Land, against warring tribes from the East such as the Yotvingians and the Lithuanians.
