About Kolno
Kolno is a town in northeastern Poland, positioned within the Podlaskie Voivodeship, about 150 km northeast of Warsaw. It is the seat of Kolno County, and the seat of the smaller administrative district referred to as Gmina Kolno, but it is not a part of this district, as the city has gmina fame in its very own right. Kolno has 10,730 inhabitants. Kolno become first mentioned in 1222. The city first belonged to the Masovian Dukes, and then to the Polish crown. Kolno obtained city rights from Prince Janusz III of Masovia in 1425.
The principal financial enlargement came about in the 16th century, with more exchange and crafts. Kolno become destroyed by fire during the Kosciuszko Uprising. After the Partitions of Poland it have become part of Prussia, till 1807, and in the end, part of Duchy of Warsaw. From 1815 it belonged to Congress Poland. Kolno become destroyed again in the First World War, in the course of battle among Russian and German empires. The population of Kolno at some stage in the interwar length increased to 5,163 individuals, 70% of them Jewish.
