Bytom

Bytom is a metropolis with powiat rights in southern Poland, in Silesia, in centre of Metropolitan Association of Upper Silesia and Dabrowa Basin. One of the oldest cities inside the Upper Silesia. The former seat of the Piast dukes of the Duchy of Bytom. Until 1532 it remained inside the fingers of the Silesian Piasts and then it belonged to the Hohenzollern dynasty and on account that 1623. The Donnersmarck family as a State united states.

In the years 1742 to 1945 the town became inside the borders of Prussia and Germany and performed a crucial position as a monetary and administrative centre of the neighborhood industrial place. Until the outbreak of World War II it became the main centre of country wide, social, cultural and publishing agencies preventing to maintain Polish identity in Upper Silesia. Bytom is one of the oldest towns of Upper Silesia, at the beginning recorded as Bitom in 1136. It obtained city rights from prince Wladyslaw in 1254 with its first centrally placed marketplace rectangular. The town of Bytom benefited economically from its vicinity on a alternate route linking Krakow with Silesia from east to west, and Hungary with Moravia and Greater Poland from north to south.
