About Basilica Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption
The Basilica Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption is a massive Gothic building located within the Polish city of Wloclawek placed near to the Vistula River. Construction on the cathedral began within the 1340s, and it changed into consecrated in 1411. It became still beneath production inside the 15th and at the beginning of the 16th century, till its completion in 1526. It is one of the best treasure troves of funerary artwork in Poland next to the cathedrals in Gniezno, Poznan and Cracow. When Wloclawek became a bishopric, there might also already have been two places of worship in the city.
One of them turned into probably a castle chapel, and the other was St. John the Baptist Church with which the parish functioned that changed into administered then by Benedictines. The castle chapel, which turned into under the auspices of the prince, played the position of the first cathedral. According to the chronicler Jan Dlugosz, bishop Swidger prepared the brand new cathedral in Wloclawek, and adapted the fort chapel which turned into devoted to St. Mary of the Assumption. However, the primary written records about the cathedral in Wloclawek comes best from 1185.
