Porta Mariae
About Porta Mariae
Porta Mariae is famous among locals as well as among visitors for its triumphal curve; it is located in Naga City recognizing the tercentenary of the commitment to Our Lady of Peñafrancia.
It has been a convention in the Catholic Church to manufacture structures to remember earth shattering events. In particular, a Porta Mariae is one of such structures, generally worked for and opened on a Jubilee year. It's better time in the Philippines.
The curve, 18 meters 59 ft wide, 4 meters 13 ft profound and 11 meters 36 ft high, is surmounted by a 10 feet 3 m tall metal picture of Our Lady of Peñafrancia and two blessed messengers on each side.
The primary entry's two little entryways each suit three people, while the focal gateway obliges no less than eight people. Modeler Gian Paolo P. Priela had outlined it and finished under the course of architect Noriel L. Villar. The famous Porta Mariae was honored and initiated by Archbishop Leonardo Legaspi on 9 September 2010.
