About Colca Canyon
The sights of Colca Canyon are those of grandeur and grace at the same time. Situated in southern Peru, the canyon is formed by Colca River which originates in the Andes Mountains. The canyon is almost twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in United States of America. The canyon at some places is barren and in some places lush green. Many small villages inhabit the canyon at deeper spots. Collaguas and the Cabanas are the two main tribes residing here. They still maintain the pre-Inca stepped terraces for cultivation. Apart from the exquisite landscape, another attraction of Colca Canyon is the Andean Condor, the largest flying bird in the western hemisphere that belongs to the vulture family. 'Cruz del Condor' is the best spot to sight Andean Condor at closest range.
