About Sverd i fjell
sverd in fjell is a monument listed in Hafrsfjord, a short drive from Sola Strand Hotel.
The monument is made by sculptor Fritz Røed from Bryne and was unveiled by King Olav in 1983.
The monument consists of three large swords, set down in the swamp farm in memory of the Battle of Hafrsfjord in 872 when Harald Hårfagre collected Norway into one kingdom.
The greatest sword represents the victorious king, while the other two symbolize the losing little kings.
The memorial mark is also a peace symbol, the swords are set down in the mountains so that they will never be used again.
