About Sarpsborg
Sarpsborg, historically Borg, is a metropolis and municipality in Ostfold county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the metropolis of Sarpsborg. Sarpsborg is part of the 5th largest urban location in Norway while paired with neighbouring Fredrikstad. As of 1 January 2018, in keeping with Statistics Norway these two municipalities have a total population of 136,127 with 55,840 in Sarpsborg and 81,278 in Fredrikstad. Borregaard Industries is, and always has been, the most essential industry inside the town. The city is also the home of Borg Bryggerier, a part of the Hansa Borg Bryggerier, that's Norway's 2nd biggest brewery-organization.
The city was founded as Borg by the Viking King Olav Haraldsson in 1016. It become burned to the ground with the aid of Swedish invaders in 1567 throughout the Northern Seven Years' War. Half the populace was evacuated down the river to what is nowadays referred to as Fredrikstad, approximately 15 kilometres downstream.
