About Sandar Church

Sandar Church is the oldest church in Sandefjord, Norway. The church becomes erected on the ruins of a Middle Age stone church from the thirteenth century. The present day church was constructed in 1792 within the fashion of Louis XV of France. Sandar Church initially had a 1/2-circle dome top, but the roofing turned into modified to the cutting-edge spire in 1868. Sandar Church changed into first stated in a written report in 1345. This Medieval church was later replaced with the contemporary church, which became constructed among 1790-1792. The new church became inaugurated via bishop Christen Schmidt and was named Friedrich Church in honor of King Frederick VI.

Outside is a sculpture depicting priest and poet Magnus Brostrup Landstad. Sandar Church became first noted in a written file in 1345. This Medieval church changed into later replaced with the cutting-edge church, which was built between 1790-1792. It became the primary church of Sandeherred municipality, later called Sandar. After the merge of 1968, Sandar Church have become identified as a Sandefjord city church. It is positioned inside the town centre, simply 300 meters from Sandefjord Church. The church turned into dedicated on August. It is best open in connection with advertised church occasions.
