About Yola
Yola is the capital city and authoritative focus of Adamawa State, Nigeria. Situated on the Benue River, it has a population of 336,648 in 2010. Yola is part into two sections. The old town of Yola where the Lamido lives is the customary city however the new city of Jimeta around 5 km NW is the regulatory and business focus. By and large the term Yola is presently used to mean both. Toward the north are the Mandara Mountains and the south are the Shebshi Mountains with Dimlang Vogel Peak the second most astounding point 2,042 m in Nigeria after Chappal Waddi pile of death. Yola is a passage to the Gashaka Gumpti Nature Reserve, which is the biggest national park in Nigeria.
Built up in 1841, Yola is a region that spreads over the slope of this North-Eastern area of Nigeria. It was the capital of a Fulani state until it was taken over by the British in 1901. Today, it is the capital of Adamawa State, which was framed in 1991 from part of Gongola State. Modibbo Adama, a nearby head of the Fulani, established Yola in 1841. During the Islamic development driven by Shehu Usman Dan Fodio in the mid 19th Century, Modibbo Adama was perceived as a scholarly Muslim who could lead the general population in the Upper Benue zone. Modibbo is the Fulani word for "Educator".
