National Park Service

There are a few national parks of Nigeria. The Nigeria National Park Service is in charge of saving, improving, ensuring and overseeing vegetation and wild creatures in the national parks of Nigeria. The NNPS is a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of the Environment, and is going by a Conservator General.

The principal national stop was Kainji Lake, set up by the military ruler General Olusegun Obasanjo in 1979. The National Parks Governing Board and five new National Parks were set up in 1991. The parks cover an aggregate land region of around 20,156 km2, or around 3% of Nigeria's aggregate land territory.
