Lagos Lagoon

The Lagos tidal ponds lie behind the hindrance shoreline and stretch out for 210 km along the drift. They are flanked by tidal wetlands and bogs. We have around ten Lagoons in Lagos State, with the Lagos and Lekki tidal ponds being the significant tidal ponds among these tidal ponds. Alternate tidal ponds are Yewa, Badagry, Ologe, Iyagbe, Kuramo, Apese, Epe, and Mahin tidal ponds Onyema, 2009b. Figure 1 and Figure 2 demonstrate the different Lagoons and Water Bodies in Lagos State. The Lagos tidal pond is in excess of 50 km long and 3 to 13 km wide. It is isolated from the Atlantic Ocean by a long sand spit to 5 km wide, which has swampy edges on the tidal pond side. Its surface territory is around 6,354.7sq km. Except for the Commodore channel, the tidal pond is genuinely shallow and isn't employed by maritime boats, however by littler freight ships and vessels. The Lagos Lagoon midpoints 2-4 m profound, yet is 10 m somewhere down in the passageway at the Commodore channel. Lagos Lagoon discharges into the Atlantic Ocean by means of Lagos Harbor.

The Lagos harbor or Commodore Channel is 0.5 km to 1 km wide and 10 km long. The Lagos port is situated at Apapa in an expansive western branch off the principle channel of the harbor. The Lagos Lagoon is tidal, water from the Atlantic Ocean moves into the tidal pond amid high tides and receeds amid low tides. The Lagos tidal pond is influenced by a capable longshore float. It is nourished by a few waterways, the most vital of which are the Ogun, Ona/Ibu, Oshun, Shasha and Oni. Lekki Lagoon, once in a while spelled Leeki, is situated in Lagos and Ogun States in Nigeria. The tidal pond lies straightforwardly toward the east of Lagos tidal pond and is associated with it by a channel.
