About Waipoua Forest

Waipoua Forest is a wooded area, on the west coast of the Northland Region of New Zealand's North Island. It preserves a number of the excellent examples of kauri forest closing in New Zealand. It is extremely good for having two of the biggest residing kauri trees, T?ne Mahuta and Te Matua Ngahere. The wooded area became d a sanctuary in 1952. A network-primarily based volunteer agency, the Waipoua Forest Trust, enables hold the wooded area. The sanctuary is bordered to the south through the 350 hectares Professor W.R McGregor Reserve, named after W. R. McGregor. Today, the forest is a great drawcard for traffic to Northland, with approximately 200,000 humans traveling T?ne Mahuta every yr.4 This has led to worries about the fitness of the forest and the unfold of kauri dieback sickness. There are also smooth walking tracks to Te Matua Ngahere and the Four Sisters, and an extended trekking song south leading beyond the 7th-biggest kauri tree, the Yakas kauri.
