About The Boulder Bank of Nelson

Nelson is concealed from Tasman Bay behind a long finger of coarse rock and adjusted stones known as The Boulder Bank.

This surprising normal reef, or spit, is around 13 kilometers in length and behind it, a protected harbor. Without the Boulder Bank, the port city of Nelson may never have created in its present area.

At the point when English property engineer Captain Arthur Wakefield landed in Tasman Bay toward the beginning of October 1841, he was searching for someplace to build up a settlement to be called Nelson.

The Motueka Maoris told the men that they would not locate a superior place for settlement than the land behind the shoreline called Kaiteriteri close where they were at that point mooring.
