Queen s Garden

Queens Gardens formally opened in 1892 to commend the Jubilee of Queen Victoria.

It was planned around the lingering some portion of the Maitai River called the Eel Pond – a sustenance gathering place for the Maori.

The principal European pioneers utilized the land where the Gardens now exist as a meat showcase abattoir until the 1880s.

In 1887 the zone was devoted the 'Queens Gardens' and the next year an opposition was held for its outline.

Mr. Antequil Somerville won the opposition and started configuration work immediately.

In the mid-twentieth century, the Memorial Gates and the Boer War Memorial were included.

The Gardens are roused by a private, Victorian garden. They mirror the development and advancement of the city.
