About Mount Taupiri
Mount Taupiri is a hill at the southern end of the Taupiri Range inside the Waikato. The maximum peak in the variety, it rises to 288 metres above sea level and overlooks Taupiri township at once to its south. It is separated from the Hakarimata Range to the south with the aid of the Taupiri Gorge, through which the Waikato River flows from the Waikato Basin to the Lower Waikato. The Mangawara Stream joins the Waikato River at the base of the hill.
Mount Taupiri is a sacred mountain and burial floor for the Waikato tribe of the Maori human beings. Until sometime within the 19th century a big M?ori village or metropolis, Kaitotehe, stood at the flat land on the alternative side of the river, underneath the H?karimata Range. In early years it was the house of Paoa, brother of Mahuta, earlier than Paoa moved to Hauraki. It became the headquarters of the Ngati Mahuta human beings.
