About Dunedin Public Art Gallery

The Dunedin Public Art Gallery holds the primary open craftsmanship gathering of the city of Dunedin, New Zealand. Situated in The Octagon in the core of the city, it is near the city's open library, civil chambers, and different offices, for example, the Regent Theater. The display was established by W. M. Hodgkins in 1884 and was the principal open workmanship exhibition in New Zealand. It initially involved what is presently the sea display in the Otago Museum, was re-situated to the Municipal Chambers in the Octagon from 1888– 90, and after that to an annexe to the Otago Museum.

It moved to another reason planned working in Queen's Gardens in 1907, to which a structure lodging the Otago Settlers Museum was included the next year. The exhibition has a solid gathering of old, current and contemporary works, by New Zealand and abroad craftsmen. It has a standout amongst the most ious accumulations of works by Frances Hodgkins, who was conceived in the city. It has the most broad accumulation of old ace artworks in New Zealand and the most noteworthy possessions of depictions by post 1800 abroad specialists.

The accumulations incorporate works by Jacopo del Casentino, Zanobi Machiavelli, Benvenuto Tisi, Ridolfo Ghirlandaio, Carlo Maratta, Luca Giordano, Salvator Rosa, Claude Lorraine, Hans Rottenhammer, Pieter de Grebber, Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger, William Dobson, Cornelis Janssens van Ceulen, Jan van Goyen, Allan Ramsay, Thomas Gainsborough, Joshua Reynolds, George Romney, Henry Raeburn, John Hoppner and William Turner; John Constable, Theodore Rousseau, Giovanni Fattori, Silvestro Lega, James Tissot, Johan Jongkind, Claude Monet, Edward Burne-Jones, George Frederic Watts, Sir Stanley Spencer, Walter Sickert and Andre Derain.
