About Wunseradiel
Wunseradiel is a former municipality within the Friesland province of the northern Netherlands, on the eastern end of the Afsluitdijk. The authentic name of the municipality is in the West Frisian language, although it's far called Wonseradeel in Dutch. In 2011 it became merged with the municipalities of Bolsward, Nijefurd, Sneek and Wymbritseradiel forming the new municipality Sudwest-Fryslan. Pier Gerlofs Donia, higher known as 'Grutte Pier', was an notorious freedom fighter from Kimswerd born sometime near the yr 1480, who led a guerrilla conflict in opposition to the occupying forces after his village changed into plundered in 1515.
He led the Frisian rebel navy, the Arumer Zwarte Hoop from 1515 until 1519. Wijard Jelckama became a Frisian army commander and freedom fighter. He co-based the Arumer Zwarte Hoop and led it from 1519 till his dying by decapitation in 1523. Menno Simons became born in Witmarsum in 1492 or 1496. He became a frontrunner of the Dutch Anabaptists or Mennonites.
