About West battery
The West battery is located on the west bank at the mouth of the Vecht in Muiden. In 1427 reinforcement became already made at this place, which became further extended over the years. In specific, the development of the sea lock and the advent of inundation as an vital device in the protection of the Netherlands contributed greatly to strengthening Muiden. The modern tower citadel become built in 1852, however it quickly became militarily old after crowning glory. After years of decline it is nowadays a region for a set of sea scouts. In 1799 earth batteries were mounted on both facet of the mouth of the Vecht near Muiden.
