About Veenkoloniaal Museum
The Veenkoloniaal Museum is a cultural history museum in Veendam. The museum become founded in 1939 by means of the Vereeniging voor Veenkoloniale Archeology. The series turned into housed in an antiquity room above the police station on Kerkstraat. In 1992 the museum moved into the constructing of the former R.H.B.S. In Veendam.
The constructing turned into designed via the architect and government architect Jan Vrijman and became positioned into use as a school in 1911. In 1987 the building lost its instructional motive. The Veenkoloniaal Museum acquired the monumental building from 1990 onwards. In 2004 the constructing became related to the new cultural center of Beresteyn, this means that that the theater, library, tune dance and theater college and museum are housed below one roof. The Veenkoloniaal Museum pursues a centered series policy, with the emphasis on paintwork, the rural industry and the Veenkoloniale maritime delivery. In the maritime segment, the focal point is at the heyday of the Veenkoloniale Zeevaart, which happened across the center of the 19th century. Hundreds of ships got here from the Groninger Veenkolonien at the time, greater than 60 percentage of the Dutch fleet become registered right here.
