About Utrecht University Botanic Gardens
The Utrecht University Botanic Gardens have consisted of two locations in view that 1987: the main lawn at Fort Hoofddijk in Uithof and the Von Gimborn Arboretum in Doorn. However, the history of residing plant collections of Utrecht University dates lower back to the seventeenth century. The first botanical lawn of the college becomes based in Utrecht in 1639, three years after the establishment of the college itself. Around 1723 the gathering moved to another area in the old city, which nonetheless exists as the museum garden of the University Museum, referred to as Oude Hortus.
It is the place in which round 1730 Ginkgo biloba turned into planted for the primary time in Europe. In 1920 Cantonspark in Baarn have become every other part of the college gardens, with a rock garden and thematic beds. In 1963 Utrecht University obtained the land at Fort Hofddijk, one of the forts of the New Dutch Waterline, situated in Uithof, the present day campus of the college on the jap outskirts of the city of Utrecht.
