The past due-gothic city hall of Middelburg is located on the market of Middelburg, Zeeland. It is considered one of the finest gothic buildings in the Netherlands. Construction commenced in 1452 and was supervised through numerous generations of the Flemish own family of architects Keldermans. Construction turned into finished in 1520, the metropolis corridor obtained a facade with gothic windows, red-white shutters, smaller turrets and twenty-5 statues of Zeeland's counts and countesses. The building has one primary tower, which the Middelburgers name 'Malle Betje'.
This mocking name comes from the reality it used to run behind the town's other clock tower, the 'lange Jan'. A meat-public sale or 'meathall' used to be situated in the constructing, which had a separate entrance. Whereas the town hall itself continues to be used for weddings, since 2004 its spaces are in use via the University College Roosevelt, the local university. The former meat hall has been in use as an exhibition area for the SBKM when you consider that 1980. The statues on the facades represented counts and countesses of the province Zeeland.
