The Green Cathedral
About The Green Cathedral
The Green Cathedral or De Groene Kathedraal positioned near Almere Netherlands, is an artistic planting of Lombardy poplars that mimics the scale and shape of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, Reims, France. The Green Cathedral is 150 m long and 75 m wide, and the mature poplar trees are approximately 30 m tall. The work was planted by means of Marinus Boezem on April 16, 1987, in Southern Flevoland.
The land artwork mission turned into installed on polder land. 178 timber were planted on a knoll, a third metre above the surrounding vicinity. Over the subsequent years, a few bushes were replaced because of deer harm, and stone was laid in the floor to echo the cross ribs and assist beams of the cathedral. Now mature, the cathedral has turn out to be a region for weddings, funerals, meetings and spiritual offerings of all kinds. Nearby, a clearing has been made in a younger beech wooded area so that the open space is in the shape of the equal cathedral. Boezem indicates, because the poplars decline, the beech trees around the clearing will develop to create the church all over again therefore making sure a cyclical evolution of growth, decline and boom.
