Teylingen Castle
About Teylingen Castle
Teylingen Castle is a Dutch fortress inside the municipality of Teylingen, in Voorhout, near the border with Sassenheim. It is presumably the circle of relatives keep of the noble own family Van Teylingen, from which the Van Brederode own family directly descended. The citadel turned into at first built to guard the north-south course in Hollandic territory. Later it became a forester's fort for the forestry of the counts of Holland, starting with William IV, count number of Holland. One of the pleasant recognised population of the fort changed into Jacoba of Bavaria, who died there, and her fourth husband Frank van Borssele.
The ingesting cups which have been dug up inside the surrounding region are known as Jacobakanntjes. At present, simplest ruins are left of the fortress. These ruins are, but, properly preserved, current out of a surrounding wall and a donjon which forms part of the wall, and which is in part surrounded by means of water. The wall dates from the start of the 13th century and the main building shortly thereafter. The citadel become heavily broken around 1570 inside the Eighty Years' War, and partially restored after that.
