About Textile Research Centre
The Textile Research Centre, Leiden, Netherlands, is an unbiased studies institute working within the subject of textiles and get dressed. It is housed at Hogewoerd 164 in Leiden and consists of exhibition space, garage rooms, a study room and other running regions. The current director of the TRC in line with November 2010 is Gillian Vogelsang-Eastwood, a fabric and dress historian. The TRC became founded in 1991 as a Stichting. Since then it's been worried in many factors of the academic study of textiles and dress, in particular the ones from the Near East. In 1997 the TRC began constructing up a textile and dress collection.
By late 2010 the gathering had grown to over 6,500 textiles, garments and add-ons from all around the world. Most of the clothes come from the Near East and Islamic lands: significantly, Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran, Oman and Saudi Arabia. It additionally has a large collection of Dutch local dress. Many of the clothes have been received in the course of fieldwork with the aid of TRC body of workers and college students, while others had been bought or given as donations. Until August 2009 the TRC become housed within the National Museum of Ethnology, Leiden, however because then it has moved to new premises within the centre of Leiden.
