About Ten Boer
Ten Boer is a place and former municipality in the Dutch province of Groningen. The municipality covered an area of 45.71 km² and had a population of unknown as of 1 January 2019. Of these, 4,745 lived in the village itself in 2013. Before 1301 a nunnery was founded near the village that belonged to the Benedictine order. The only thing that remains of the monastery is the current church that probably dates from before the foundation of the monastery, but was part of it.
The neighborhood of Bouwerschap to the east of Ten Boer was also mentioned in the Bauwert in the 15th century. The historical name of the municipality was Vierendeel, which meant a part of the medieval landscape Fivelingo and a creator within the Winsumer and Schaphalsterzijlvest. The fate of the municipality was tied to a thread during the municipal reorganization in 1990, the norm was that a municipality should have approximately 10,000 inhabitants, and Ten Boer did not meet that requirement. However, a merger with the municipality of Bedum was eventually canceled. Since 2006, Ten Boer has worked closely with the municipality of Groningen on an official level.
