About Singer Laren
Singer Laren is a museum and live performance corridor located within the middle of Laren, Netherlands. The museum is dedicated to presenting and keeping the collection of the American artist William Henry Singer 1868 to 1943 and his wife Anna. William Henry Singer was the son of a metallic baron of the same call who sold his enterprise Pittsburgh Bessemer Steel Co.
To Andrew Carnegie. Against the wishes of his father, young Singer have become an artist and after marrying Anna Spencer-Brugh in 1895, he moved to Monhegan, Maine to sign up for the artist colony there. His father become disenchanted that he chose art in preference to business and insisted he earn his residing as an artist. His seascapes bought properly, however, and together with the artist Martin Borgord, the couple traveled to Paris in which they studied artwork at the Academie Julian in 1901. Attracted via the artist colony in Laren, made famous by the Dutch painters Jozef Israels, Anton Mauve, Jacob Maris, Albert Neuhuys, and their students which includes Matthijs Maris, Arina Hugenholtz, they determined to settle there.
