About Rotte
The Rotte is a river in the Rhine-Maas-delta within the Netherlands. The Rotte is the eponym of the city of Rotterdam: the city turned into based inside the 13th century when a dam become built along the river. It rises in Moerkapelle in the so-called Green Heart. It used to drain the Zuidplas lake till it was reclaimed in 1840. It flows beyond Bleiswijk and Bergschenhoek; after which the village of Hillegersberg, which become built on a sand dune and changed into one of the few places inside the marsh land that would be completely settled earlier than the dikes have been built. In the churchyard there are the ruins of a thirteenth century citadel whose origins probable date back to the Roman Empire.
