About Oudewater
Oudewater is a town and municipality in the Dutch province of Utrecht. The location received metropolis rights in 1265 and is therefore the oldest city inside the Groene Hart. Oudewater is positioned on the mouth of the Lange Linschoten river in the Hollandsche IJssel. Oudewater arose around 1100 in a meander bend where the Lange Linschoten meets the Hollandsche IJssel. The beginning of the call Oudewater is unknown. It is most in all likelihood that it's far a corruption of vintage values. Oudewater became strategically positioned in the border vicinity of the Graafschap Holland and the Sticht Utrecht.
The metropolis acquired metropolis rights from the 38th bishop of Utrecht - Hendrik van Vianden around 1265. This made the city an crucial border castle. Oudewater at the beginning belonged to the Sticht Utrecht. In 1280 the Sticht lost the metropolis to the county of Holland. Oudewater turned into besieged in 1401 at some stage in the Arkel Wars. Only after the revision of the provincial borders in 1970 did Oudewater emerge as a part of Utrecht once more after almost 700 years.
