About Ooststellingwerf
Ooststellingwerf is a municipality in the Dutch province of Friesland. The municipality has 25,543 inhabitants as of January 1, 2017 supply: CBS. Ooststellingwerf has an area of 226.64 km² . Ooststellingwerf and Weststellingwerf are part of the Stellingwerven. Although the municipality is in Friesland, Dutch and much less Frisian are spoken. Older residents nonetheless communicate the nearby language Stellingwerfs within the small towns. The river Tjonger, in the north of the municipality, is the language border among Frisian and Lower Saxon. An exception to this is the dyeing villages of Ravenswoud and Appelscha wherein, simply as inside the northern villages of Donkerbroek, Haule, Haulerwijk and Waskemeer, Frisian is spoken.
The municipality is on the border with Drenthe ; in this border, southeast of Appelscha, lies the Drents-Friese Wold National Park , with vast forests and a sand float , known as the Aekingerzand or the Kale Duinen . The maximum point in the municipality is the pinnacle of the Bosberg, 26.6 m away, additionally close to Appelscha. The Fochteloerveen is located at the east aspect of the municipality, between Appelscha and Veenhuizen . The Linde and Tjonger rivers originate on this municipality.
