About Medemblik
Medemblik is a municipality and a metropolis in the Netherlands, within the province of North Holland and the location of West-Frisia. It lies right now south of the polder and former municipality of Wieringermeer. Medemblik became a prosperous buying and selling town, when in 1282, Floris V, Count of Holland, effectively invaded West Friesland. He built several fortresses to govern the area, certainly one of which turned into Kasteel Radboud in Medemblik, and offered Medemblik metropolis rights in 1289. After Floris V had been murdered in 1296, the local Frisian besieged the castle, but in 1297 an army from Holland thwarted their efforts to starve out the population, which blanketed Medemblik citizens. Several greater attacks passed off in the following centuries.
The maximum infamous of those befell in June 1517, while Medemblik changed into attacked from mainland Frisia by means of about 4000 pirates referred to as the Arumer Zwarte Hoop, led via Pier Gerlofs Donia and Wijard Jelckama. Many residents fled to the fortress, which the pirates unsuccessfully besieged. Eventually, they took out their fury in town, which burned to the floor. After this the band persevered their marauding direction on land in the course of modern North Holland.
