Martinikerk
About Martinikerk
The Martinikerk is a church in Doesburg, Netherlands. The church's tower is the 8th tallest within the Netherlands at 94 metres. 1547 it was struck via lightning, heavily destructive church and tower. The tower changed into once more broken by French troops in 1672, the rampjaar. It was over again struck with the aid of lightning in 1717 and in 1783 became the primary building in the Netherlands to be included from lightning by using a lightning rod.
A lightning rod or lightning conductor is a steel rod hooked up on a shape and intended to shield the shape from a lightning strike. If lightning hits the shape, it's going to preferentially strike the rod and be carried out to floor thru a wire, rather than passing via the structure, in which it is able to begin a hearth or purpose electrocution. It was restored 1919–1930 via W. Te Riele and N. De Wolf, and restored once more after it became closely broken when taking flight German troops blew up the tower in April 1945.
