Maarssen

Maarssen is a place inside the Dutch municipality of Stichtse Vecht, within the province of Utrecht. The location is north of the metropolis of Utrecht. Maarssen is not best at the river Vecht but additionally on the Amsterdam-Rhine canal. Maarssen includes parts, the antique element north of the canal, popularly known as Maarssen village and immediately west of it, on the opposite aspect of the canal, a tremendously new part special Maarssenbroek, in which the station is placed.

A resident of Maarssen is referred to as a Maarssenaar. Maarssen belonged to a municipality of the same name till January 1, 2011, together with Maarsseveen, Oud Maarsseveen, Molenpolder, Oud Zuilen and Tienhoven. The merger in 2011 with the municipalities of Breukelen and Loenen caused the brand new municipality of Stichtse Vecht. There are hardly ever any archaeological unearths from prehistoric times in Maarssen. Although in Roman instances the Romans had a fortress some kilometers away in the fortified border vicinity in Utrecht and also the River Vecht ran from there thru the modern Maarssen, there also are infrequently any unearths from this era.
