The Koepoort or Westerpoort is a town gate in Enkhuizen. The gate was the principle western front of Enkhuizen and is part of the vintage fortifications of the metropolis. Between 1590 and 1593 Enkhuizen was extended closer to the west. A new city wall become built with a moat and seven bastions.
At the Koepoort's modern location, a wood gate and a drawbridge were constructed. 50 years later plans for a stone gate spread. The Koepoort's architect might be Jacob van Campen. In 1649 the inspiration stone became put at its region, but it soon grew to become out that the Bentheimer sandstone used in the layout coundn't be provided. The gate changed into completed provisionally in 1654. Traffic changed into guided thru the gate. Because of a paved road towards Hoorn, that become made in 1672, a large bite of all the town's traffic came in through the gate. The Koepoort soon started to decay due to lacking protection. In 1730 the gate became recovered and supplied with a cupola. In 1793 a clockwork turned into positioned in the cupola.
