About Hoogeveen
Hoogeveen is a municipality and a metropolis inside the northeastern Netherlands. Hoogeveen dates its history to 20 December 1625, when Roelof van Echten offered a huge tract of peat land from farmers of the district with the plan to harvest its peat. One vintage map of the vicinity known as it Locus Deserta Atque ob Multos Paludes Invia, a deserted and impenetrable region of many swamps. Hoogeveen itself turned into hooked up in 1636 by way of Peter Joostens Warmont and Johan van der Meer. Its coat of arms, granted 10 November 1819, is white, with a pile of peat blanketed in straw in the middle and beehives on every aspect, representing the town's first predominant industries.
Vincent van Gogh visited the region in the fall of 1883. In the second half of of the Nineteen Sixties, Hoogeveen turned into the fastest growing city inside the Netherlands. Its fast increase at some point of that length led its city council to fill in most of the town's canals, canals dug inside the region's early days when it become a high supply of peat.
