Heerlen

Heerlen is a metropolis and municipality within the southeast of the Dutch province of Limburg. Heerlen had 86,826 population on 1 January 2019. This makes Heerlen the most important municipality inside the Eastern Mining Region, and the fourth in Limburg, after Maastricht, Venlo and Sittard Geleen. Although there are lines of earlier profession, Heerlen's records of occupation best started with the appearance of the Romans. They founded a army settlement there 2000 years in the past, which they named Coriovallum.

The Romans built a bathhouse, among different things, and did pottery. The oldest written point out of Heerlen or 'Herle' is in a deed from 1065. During the Middle Ages, Heerlen slowly developed as an agricultural village, with mills and farmsteads. Heerlen changed into a reasonably remoted village until well into the 19th century.
