Harlingen

Harlingen is a municipality and a metropolis within the northern Netherlands, within the province of Friesland on the coast of Wadden Sea. Harlingen is a metropolis with a protracted history of fishing and shipping. Harlingen obtained metropolis rights in 1234. Harlingen is served by stations at the railway line from Leeuwarden. From 1904 to 1935 there has been a passenger service at the North Friesland Railway, freight being carried till January 1938. Rederij Doeksen perform ferries to the Wadden islands of Vlieland and Terschelling that go away from Harlingen.

The famous Dutch writer Simon Vestdijk became born in Harlingen and used to depict his fatherland in his writings as Lahringen. The metropolis of Harlingen, Texas, inside the United States is named after this metropolis because among the original settlers of the Texas metropolis came from Harlingen. The Admiralty of Friesland become hooked up in Dokkum in 1597 however moved to Harlingen in 1645.
