About Frisian Maritime Museum
The Fries Scheepvaart Museum is a maritime museum in the Kleinzand place of Sneek, Netherlands. Located inside the province of Friesland, it contains a library, movie viewing room, and makes a speciality of nearby seafaring life. It is housed in canal homes dated to 1844 and offers collections of old crusing ships fashions, naval artwork, and silver portions. The museum became opened on thirteen April 1881 by using the Provincial Friesian Society of History, Antiquity and Linguistics. The Historical Exhibition of 1877 was such a success that the Society turned into capable of assemble a building at the Rue Royale.
Extension and maintenance took place in 1992-1997, to a design by using architect Gunnar Daan. The more than one expansions sooner or later related numerous canal homes, with a principal front hall. The museum celebrated its one hundred and twenty fifth anniversary in 2006. Preparations are underway for a brand new constructing of the Fries Museum in Zaailand, designed via Abe Bonnema; it was scheduled to open in September 2013.
