Eersel
About Eersel
Eersel is a municipality and a city in southern Netherlands in the province of North Brabant. Eersel is located inside the Campine area. Eersel is part of the Acht Zaligheden and recognised for its attractive marketplace. This marketplace, collectively with the Hint, has been d a included village on October 19, 1967. This has been done to guarantee the future survival of its authentic character. About 3,500 years ago the primary inhabitants of the area of Eersel were builders of sepulchre hillocks or burial mounds of the Tumulus way of life.
Following them within the overdue bronze age the people of the Urnfield culture endured living there as has been proved through the urn with cremating ashes that has been located in ‘Schadewijk’. Before the Romans occupied this area, which they known as Toxandria, the Eburones lived right here. From the Roman length there are also archaeological finds. Many shards of Roman pottery are determined among the church of Eersel and the hamlet Schadewijk. The Salian Franks that settled the region within the 4th century have become called Toxandrians. After the Roman time the location has been without a doubt depopulated.
