About De Ven
Lighthouse De Ven, is a white rectangular brick lighthouse on the IJsselmeerdijk in the village of Oosterdijk about 4 kilometers from Enkhuizen. The tower was constructed in 1699 to 1700 and is therefore one of the oldest lighthouses inside the Netherlands. The tower has a height of 15 meters and the mild peak is 17 meters.
Above the doorway is a cartouche with the names of the founders. In 1699 the 'commissioners of pilotage the pilotage device of that time determined that three light revolts ought to come along the Zuiderzee coast. The De Ven tower is one of the three light stands constructed to mark the route from the Wadden Sea to Amsterdam. Together with the same towers at Marken and at Durgerdam, those ensured that shipping from the sea to Amsterdam discovered its manner. The production charges for the 3 towers were envisioned at 16,000 guilders, wherein the States of Holland could make contributions 8,000 guilders. Of these three towers, best De Ven is still the authentic. The other two have been changed within the 19th century via iron ones.
