Dantumadeel is a municipality in the northeast of the Dutch province of Friesland. The municipality has 18,930 inhabitants and has a place of 87 km², of which 1.78 km² water. The municipality of Dantumadeel is centrally located inside the Dokkumer Wouden inside the vicinity of the Friese Wouden. Dantumadeel is first mentioned in a report from 1242. At that point, Dantumadeel, or Donthmadeil, because it changed into then known, was part of the Winninghe district, the northern a part of Oostergo.
