About Cartierheide

Cartierheide is a herbal landscape region in the south of the Netherlands in province Noord-Brabant positioned near the Belgian border inside the natural area called The Campine. On the alternative side of the border is Belgium's first country wide park, Hoge Kempen. The name is derived from Baron Emile de Cartier Marchiennes who purchased it in 1863, the moor near this area Duizels Hof and used the heath as hunting grounds.

Heide is a Dutch word for heath or heathland which is a shrubland habitat located mainly on low exceptional acidic soils, and is characterized via open, low developing woody plant life. The property turned into given to the Dutch Society for preservation of nature monuments Natuurmonumenten in 1932 through the son of Baron de Cartier who was also named Emile de Cartier de Marchienne and positioned underneath control of Staatsbosbeheera Dutch enterprise to govern and preserve Dutch nature reserves. There are several touristic sight seeing and taking walks routes from surrounding villages like Bergeijk, VVV Eersel and protected and maintained by using AVN Kempenland.
