The Amsterdamse Bos is a woodland built between 1934 and 1970 to the southwest of Amsterdam that lies between the Ringvaart and Amstelveen. The Amsterdamse Bos is placed nearly absolutely in the municipality of Amstelveen. The area south of the A9 motorway became in the municipality of Aalsmeer till 2002, however the municipal boundary between Amstelveen and Aalsmeer has given that been positioned at Bosrandweg.
The municipality of Amsterdam is the proprietor and supervisor of the woodland. Jac became the muse for the Amsterdamse Bos. P. Thijsse. Already in 1900 he became concerned about the greenery across the town. In his paintings, he indicated that the location south of the Nieuwe Meer become very appropriate for creating a forest. In 1927 the ideas for the construction of the Amsterdamse Bos took shape. It became born as the 'Bosch plan', designed with the intention of increasing the entertainment centers of the capital Amsterdam. The architects of the plan have been the city planners Cornelis van Eesteren and Jakoba Mulder. The biologists Jac. P. Thijsse and A.J. Van Laren had a large share inside the layout of the woodland.
