About Lake Oponona
Lake Oponona is a natural lake inside the Uuvudhiya Constituency inside the Oshana Region of northern Namibia. It is located about 70 kilometres from Etosha Pan and is the most important lake inside the Cuvelai Basin. It holds water up to the subsequent rainy season in a rich 12 months. Because the lake keeps water for a long term some of birds like flamingos and others briefly flow there whilst the oshanas , swamps, and other wetlands dry up. During the 2012/2013 drought Lake Oponona shrank by more than 500 metres because of thousands of livestock that were moved there to drink.
There is likewise Oponona River situated at Oniizimba village of Ompundja Constituency. Ompundja Constituency is an electoral constituency within the Oshana Region of Namibia. It has four,423 population. It is the birthplace of ambassador, politician and businessperson Monica Nashandi. Ompundja constituency is traditionally a stronghold of the South West Africa People's Organization birthday party.
