About Sidi Boughaba

The lake Sidi Boughaba is a remarkable protected site for the preservation of biodiversity. It belongs to the Ramsar Convention. It is one of the remains of the last wetland freshwater swamp on the northwest coast of Morocco. The mist sometimes makes the landscape a bit unrealistic, especially when it is thicker. It comes from the Atlantic Ocean from where it is separated by only one high dune.

Satellite photo May 16, 2005 shows the mouth of the Sebau river in Mehdiya which shows the great mayor terminal and the sediment ground on the sea south of the lake's estuarine, parallel to the Atlantic coast, long lake south-west. Sidi Boogaba's Bird Sanctuary or literally "Father of the Jungle" is a very peaceful place especially during winter or during the week. Coming through the fishing harbor of Mehdiya, they put a long forest stretched by the sand dunes in the shore west, which can lift it up to 25 meters high and on which the last house of Mehrdia is made to the sea.

As the crow flies, they are 1.5 km from the sea. In the opposite direction of the sea towards the east occasionally a wall of naturally disconnected wall of stacked sand stones emerges from which waterfalls flow out. Fresh water that feeds on the lake. The length of this lake is up to the turn of the road, which leads to Sidi Talbi, where Koba is Marbout Sidi Boogaba. This lake is 5 to 6 km long and varies from 0.50 to 2.50 meters in width to 100 to 350 meters wide. According to the rainfall, its surface may vary from 150 to 200 hectares.
