About Royal Stables

The Royal Stables of Meknes are a feat of ingenuity. They used to provide stability for 12,000 royal horses. Even more unbelievable, each horse had his own groom and a slave, who ensured that all its needs had been fulfilled and its steady was kept very clean. It is said that Maula Ismail was stubborn about his horses and all 12,000 of them behaved better than his prized Haram. The location of the Royal Stables of Magnes, near the Aegal Basin, and both were constructed carefully to accommodate a large number of horse horses. The ribbons were placed at specific angles.

These angles gave the stable masters the highest possible visibility of their horses in a large area. In this building there is a wonderful arrangement of huge walls, original cedar wooden doors, arched ceilings, very small windows and under-watering rooms. The high ceilings and small windows kept the stables cold in the summer and kept warm in the winter, while the canal continually feeds the stables with fresh water. Royal horses were always kept at an ideal temperature and there was no shortage of clean water for drinking.

Today, the Royal Stables of Mackness leads to Haras, which is a stud farm where billions of endangered African and even Arab countries are being banned. Hars was built in 1914 and it is the largest stud farm with 450 horses and 80 hectares in North Africa. The castle was destroyed in the powerful Lisbon earthquake of 1755, which had passed through Europe and Morocco some years after Moulay Ismail's death. Fortunately, a small part of the splendor of the palace lives in the incredible Royal Stables of Mackness.
