About Chellah

The Chellah or Shalla is a medieval sustained Muslim necropolis situated in the metro territory of Rabat, Morocco, on the south left half of the Bou Regreg estuary. The Phoenicians built up an exchanging emporium at the site and called it "Sala". This was later the site of the antiquated Roman state of "Sala Colonia" in the Roman region of Mauretania Tingitana. Sala was the name given to the city established by the Muslim vanquishers of North Africa, which was, for the most part, deserted amid the Almohad time, at that point remade by the Marinids in the thirteenth century.

The remains of their medieval fortification are as yet surviving. The Berber Almohads utilized the site as a regal graveyard. The Marinids made the site a heavenly necropolis, or chellah, and fabricated a perplexing that included mosque, minaret, and regal tombs. The tall minaret of the now-demolished mosque was worked of stone and zellige tilework, and still stands.
