About Borj Nord
Borj Nord or Burj al-Shamal, the town of Faiz is a fort in Morocco. It was first established in 1582 by the Sadi Dynasty, which was built after the Portuguese Fort in the 16th century. This phrase is one of the biggest defense structures around the city and is one of the few inclusion in European style change in military architecture in the age of gunpowder. Today, the fort is publicly opened as a museum. This fort was built in 1582 by the powerful Sultan Ahmed al-Mansoor. Their aim was to keep the restless population of Face El-Bali old city in control, because the city was actually protected from external attacks.
Accordingly, forts were built in the commanding position looking towards the city, from where their cannon could easily bombard the city. Along with Borj Nord, there were other forts built at this time: Borj Sood was facing Borj Nord across the valley on the top of a hill towards Fez from the south; Tombard town is a bastion of Bab Fate in the south-east; And Borj Sheikh Ahmed, one of the three terrains, which was built with the eastern and southern walls of the facade Al-Jadid and the closest to a facade El-Bali. Sades built new bastions of Borj Nord, Borj Sood and Faes El-Jedid. To emulate Portuguese military architecture; Portugal is a result of their wars to get out of Morocco.
