About Arab Bureau
Arab Bureau established in 1916 during the First World War was a section of the Intelligence Department, and closed in 1920, with the objective of collecting and disseminating intelligence information about the Arab areas of the Middle East. According to a committee, on January 7, 1916, the establishment of the Imperial Defense Paper, Arab Bureau was done to reconcile British political activity in the near future.
Foreign Office, India Office, Defense Committee, War Office, Admiralty, and Government of India together spoke about the general tendency of the German-Turkish policy. Brian Vestrett wrote in the 1992 Arab History Is that "the agency later has borne much debate for the brutal abuse of the Middle East in the Middle East, during and after the World War, it was formed on the initiative of Mark Sykes, who in December 1915, Reported to London that, in the recent visit to Egypt from India to the Middle East, they were discarded by the German and Turkish governments, against British imperialism.
The proposal of Sykes was welcomed by Gilbert Clayton, Director of Civil and Military Intelligence, in Egypt and Sudan. Clayton believed that such a office not only explored and competed against enemy propaganda can be capable of overseeing a comprehensive collection of political and military information about the Middle East, and in turn, in Cairo and London. Produces a report that is easily understood to indicate policy determination toward the Arab regions.
